Shooting & Stalking
Shooting in Devon
Devon and Cornwall present outstanding opportunities for sporting shooting in the UK. The high pheasants over our steep valleys are world-famous, and we can arrange driven days to suit all tastes. Driven snipe are a house speciality, and we can offer mixed rough shooting or evening duck flighting. Superb deer stalking is available, offering a chance of something equivalent to a Highland Macnab, with early October salmon, red stags and duck, pheasant or pigeon. For those with adequate adrenalin, high summer dawn or dusk roe bucks, with the option of night fishing for sea trout, provides possibly the most exciting sport in these islands.
A true country sports hotel, we offer a wide variety of pursuits for the experienced gun or for those looking to learn something new. We work closely with some of the finest driven shoots on estates in the local area and with professional stalkers, guides and instructors.
The hotel caters for all your sporting needs and will organise every aspect of your trip, leaving you to enjoy the experience of the wild Westcountry.
We offer a variety of driven pheasant shoots on well-known neighbouring estates ranging from 125-300 bird days. The birds you will be shooting are exceptionally high due to the steep, wooded valleys. Complete parties of six to eight guns are preferred, preferably already known to each other, but smaller parties can sometimes be accommodated.
£30.00 - £35.00 per bird, plus VAT. October - February 1st.
Shooting driven snipe has been a speciality of the house at the Arundell Arms since the 1930's.This is exciting, testing shooting at our smallest game bird, with short drives over a mix of plough, grassland or marsh. Bags vary according to the ability of the guns (seven to ten cartridges fired to one bird picked is the average) and the number of birds shown. Being migratory birds, nothing is certain and drives can vary from a handful to a couple of hundred birds being put over the guns.
£210.00 per gun per day including lunch and transport to the drives. Charges for are based on a minimum of six guns. If the number of guns drops below six, the shoot organiser will still charge for six guns. November - January.
We offer walked-up and small driven days from late October to the end of January for parties of six to eight guns. These consist of a mixture of pheasant, duck, pigeon, woodcock and snipe. An evening's duck flighting on ponds in Devon and Cornwall is an optional extra.
£200.00 per gun, per day inclusive of a light lunch and to include an evening's duck flight if required. November - February 1st.
We offer deer stalking at various moorland, farmland and woodland locations near the Devon/Cornwall border. Red, Roe and Fallow deer are the three deer species to be found on our stalking outings during the deer open seasons. Morning and evening outings are available and run in conjunction with professionally-managed cull programmes, thus allowing guests to stalk in the company of an experienced professional guide.
Our stalkers are Approved Witnesses for the Deer Management Qualifications (DMQ), so if you are a stalker working towards his or her DSC Level 2, witnessed stalks can be arranged.
From £80 per outing. Outings of three days plus - please call for special rates. Cull / trophy fees on application.

Join one of our local guides and learn all about the wonderful world of ferrets. Ferrets have been used for rabbit hunting for hundreds of years. With their lean build and aggressive nature, the ferret is the perfect hunter to get down holes and chase the rabbits from their burrows. Ferreting remains hugely popular in the Westcountry and is an efficient method of rabbit control. We can offer two popular methods of ferreting for rabbits: traditional ferreting using long nets and purse nets, or shooting bolting rabbits with shotguns.
Traditional ferreting (with nets), £120 per person or £300 per day for up to 4 persons.
Bolting rabbit shooting, £120 per gun, for party of 2 to 4 guns.
Perfect for newcomers to hunting game for the table. An evening's rabbit shooting is available for parties of up to two people. Learn about the safe use of rimfire rifles, a little about rabbit ecology and control and how to prepare your quarry for the table. You will be shooting rabbits by lamp and rifle or, during summer months, evening rabbit stalking if preferred, on a local farm.
£100 per person. Price includes use of estate rifle and ammunition. Lamping is available all year, rabbit stalking from June - August.
