Anne and Gerald Fox-Edwards took over the hotel 50 years ago and it has been serving guests ever since. Sadly Gerald died in 1973 and Anne Voss-Bark ( as she became following her marriage to Conrad) ran the hotel until 2008 when she was succeeded by her son Adam. A former winner of the Woman Hotelier of the Year Award, Anne was honoured in 1994 receiving the M.B.E. for services to tourism. In 2006 she celebrated the prestigious award presented from the Good Hotel Guide of "Sporting Hotel of the Year." Her book "West Country Fly Fishing," a collection of essays by experts and friends including Ted Hughes, Dermot Wilson, Brian Clarke and her late husband Conrad Voss Bark, is considered a classic.
The past 50 years have been a period of warm welcomes and consistent high quality service to our guests. Whilst strong on traditional values and service, the hotel has never stood still and there have been a constant stream of improvements to the hotel.
The hotel has been run since 2009 by Adam Fox-Edwards who has maintained the ethos of the hotel whilst continuing to develop it. He has an excellent team around him and the family involvement continues with his sons George and Harry helping at the hotel as well.
The hotel is still doing today what it has done for 300 years - providing a warm welcome to travelers and locals and serving great food and refreshment.
The kitchen is led by Master Chef of Great Britain, Steven Pidgeon supported by a talented and enthusiastic young team. The Arundell Arms fishing is looked after by David Pilkington and Alex Jones who are not only outstanding fishermen but have taught thousands of men and women, boys and girls to fish.
We are particularly proud that many of our staff have been with us for many years. We have 2 mothers and daughters with us and one grandmother, mother and daughter. This all helps to ensure that you will receive a real family welcome when you visit the hotel. Our greatest pleasure is when our guests return.
